License

The named person and their board record

Gather the person’s full name plus their role, then open the board search. A business name alone will not identify the person assessing you.

License:
permission from the relevant state board to practice a profession.

Doctors and physician assistants

Physician assistants have their own medical license. They provide care and can write prescriptions within the state’s rules.

The North Carolina Medical Board lets you look up doctors and physician assistants for free. The record says whether their license is current and shows public steps the board has taken, such as discipline for breaking its rules.

Use the full name. Compare the result with the person named by the service. If the details differ, ask the service to resolve the mismatch.

Nurse practitioners

A nurse practitioner is a nurse who gives care and prescribes within a written agreement with a doctor.

For a nurse practitioner, the North Carolina Board of Nursing offers its own free license check.

Ask the service which role the person holds. Do not assume a missing Medical Board result means a nurse practitioner has no license.

A record has limits

If the record shows no public discipline, it means the board has taken no public action against that person. That clean record does not measure the quality of care.
